MY JOURNEY TO JEWELLERY MAKING
After finishing university, and before starting my first full time job, I traveled to Costa Rica to volunteer in a rain forest. One evening in a small coastal village called Montezuma, known for its stunning waterfalls and beaches, I became met a lady offering silver jewellery making classes. I was captivated by the soft aesthetic of handmade jewellery and promised myself that when I returned to New Zealand I would learn to make jewellery.
My journey to jewellery started with one evening lesson a week at Peter Minturn Goldsmith School in Auckland, starting with a simple silver ring. I was working in a fast paced corporate job at the time, and my weekly jewellery class was often the highlight of my week. I later found out that Peter Minturn had made my mum's engagement ring. The ring has an incredible green tourmaline baguette which was given to my father by his mother. The coincidence sealed my fate, and I knew then that making jewellery would somehow weave its way into my life. I continued to take evening classes when I moved to London, where I learnt an array of traditional and experimental jewellery making techniques such as wax carving, stone setting, granulation and sand casting, learning from master jewellers, including at CityLit, Morley, K2 Jewellery Academy and Goodman Morris.
I started my jewellery business in 2021 after completing a two year course in fine jewellery at CityLit. In August 2023 I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. I now run my jewellery business alongside caring for my daughter and working within the education sector. My jewellery business is small in scale, releasing one piece at a time, but limitless when it comes to passion for jewellery design, craftsmanship and customer care.
If you too love the beauty of natural gemstones, pearls, and hand made craftsmanship, you have come to the right place.
